According to the latest annual statistics from Cepi, the umbrella organization of the European paper industry, this corresponds to a decrease of more than 1 million tonnes compared to 2022, with Germany accounting for around half of the decline. According to industry figures, the volume of waste paper in Germany fell by 500,000 tons to 12.7 million tons last year.

The overall trend of declining waste paper collection volumes is therefore continuing in Europe. According to Cepi, just under 56 million tons were still collected in 2020. In 2010, the volume was still over 58 million tons.
