Valmet: Planned realignment calls for global staff cuts
News General news
The machine manufacturer Valmet Oyj (Valmet), Espoo, has announced a comprehensive realignment of its operating model and the associated job cuts.

In order to simplify its organizational structure, the company intends to divide itself into just five divisions in future: “Automation Solutions”, “Flow Control”, “Pulp, Energy and Circularity”, “Packaging and Paper” and “Tissue”. According to a company statement, the aim of this measure is to increase operational efficiency.
The planned restructuring at Valmet also provides for a drastic reduction in personnel, whereby only office and administrative staff will be affected. Up to 1,150 of the 19,000 office jobs worldwide will be affected by the planned measures.
In Finland, 395 of a total of around 4,800 administrative employees are affected. Abroad, up to 755 of a total of 9,200 office jobs are at risk. Valmet estimates that the planned measures will result in annual savings of €80 million.
The company will seek negotiations with its employees and their representatives in the countries affected in order to find socially acceptable solutions, it added.
According to Valmet, the company employs over 19,000 people worldwide, including around 6,600 in Finland. In the 2024 financial year, the company generated annual sales of around €5.4 billion. Its portfolio includes the construction, installation and maintenance of systems for the production of paper products.
