STI Group: Sun-powered packaging production in Lauterbach

STI Group continues to extend its solar energy program across the Vogelsberg region. Following the 2.4 MW peak roof system installed in Alsfeld, which already covers most of that plant’s energy needs, is a new ground-mounted solar system for our Lauterbach packaging site. Since May 2024, over 1000 solar modules have been producing CO2-neutral electricity, 98% of which we use ourselves.

Commissioning this photovoltaic system for Lauterbach brings us a step closer to achieving STI Group's ambitious energy targets. By joining the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) in 2023, we committed to reducing CO2 emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. We wish to supply our customers with the most climate-friendly packaging possible and support them in achieving their own sustainability goals. Reassuringly, investments like these will also reduce our company’s dependence on volatile global energy markets.

Our energy transition continues: construction preparation for installing the next STI Group solar system is already underway at our Hungarian folding carton plant in Kecskemét. Here, STI Group operates one of the largest folding carton plants in Eastern Europe, producing more than 2 billion packs ever year.
