Insolvency proceedings opened for folding carton manufacturer SMP Special Multi Packaging

SMP Special Multi Packaging GmbH, a manufacturer of folding cartons for the pharmaceutical industry, has run into financial difficulties due to insolvency and over-indebtedness. On February 1, 2025, the Essen District Court opened insolvency proceedings against the company, a spokesperson for the law firm confirmed to EUWID.

The Essen-based lawyer Michael Wölte was appointed insolvency administrator. According to the spokesperson, operations and folding carton production will continue unabated. There have been no production stops or layoffs to date. Talks are currently underway with various interested parties for a possible sale.
SMP Special Multi Packaging GmbH, based in Essen, produces folding cartons for pharmaceutical applications with around 40 employees.
