Sappi Europe has completed the second phase of a three-stage modernisation project at its Gratkorn paper mill in Austria.

The aim of the project is to facilitate the transition to Industry 4.0. The status now achieved should ensure that the risk of machine failures is minimised. According to Sappi, the investment in the double-digit million range will consolidate its position as a manufacturer of coated fine papers.
The next phase of modernisation will focus on general challenges in the paper industry, such as the procurement of machine spare parts that are no longer produced.
In addition to graphic papers, Sappi also produces various types of label paper at the Gratkorn paper mill.
