Pica syndrome is a mental illness from the group of eating disorders. The focus here is not on the quantity but on the type of substances consumed: those affected mainly eat things that are not actually edible, such as sand, colouring, hair, soap, starch, mortar or paper.

For example, there are videos on YouTube of people eating toilet paper on camera.

Incidentally, "pica" is the Latin name for the magpie, which is considered a greedy and not very picky bird.
