Papyrophobia: Fear of paper

Papyrophobia belongs to the specific phobias and refers to the fear of paper, of paper products. The word comes from the ancient Greek: papyros = papyrus, paper; phobos = fear.

There are different variants:
- Fear of touching paper, cardboard / sound when paper or cardboard tears. Some people get goose bumps when touching paper and cardboard and also from the sound when paper or cardboard is torn.
- Others feel disgust at rough paper.
- Other people have an aversion to newsprint, catalogs, and brochures. For these individuals, these products are even more disgusting when wet.
