Paper and Packaging Industry: Continued Weak Demand Causes Question Marks

Rarely has the uncertainty in the industry been so great with a view to the coming months. According to the ifo Institute, German economic output will shrink by 0.4% in 2023. Next year, it will then rise by 1.4%, 0.1 percentage points less than previously thought.
"Contrary to previous expectations, the recovery is likely to fail to materialize in the second half of the year. The slowdown is continuing, and in almost all sectors the trend is toward slackness," says ifo's head of business cycle Timo Wollmershäuser.
Against this background, EUWID asked industry associations for their assessment of the second half of the year. Admittedly, it is clear that hardly any sector will be spared from the persistently weak demand. Nevertheless, there are also individual bright spots.
