Palm: Successful commissioning of RCCM paper machine PM5
News General news
Palm‘s new paper machine at its headquarters in Aalen was successfully started up on 4th July 2021. Due to several Corona-related problems, the start-up took place after some delay to the original ambitious plan.
The paper machine is already in continuous operation. Palm is now able to supply customers with rolls from the new paper machine. The technical values already indicate excellent properties for the products manufactured on PM 5.
The former paper mill with three older paper machines has recently been shut down. The paper machines have been sold for export to Bangladesh, where they will soon cover the increasing paper consumption of the 165 million population. Dismantling of the machines and the old power plant, including the prominent chimney, is already in progress.
Palm’s new paper mill is significantly quieter than the previous. The paper machine hall provides an ideal noise barrier between the national highway on the one side and the residential area on the other.
A new and revolutionary chimney design was installed on site as well. With this innovation, the typical clouds of steam from the paper mill are no longer visible for the first time worldwide. It represents a milestone for environmentally friendly paper production.
Palm‘s new paper mill comprises of a number of world innovations that are setting higher technical standards. The significant reduction in energy consumption will lead to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable production. The new paper machine is able to produce lower basis weights from 100% recovered paper that is typical of the market today. This saves on packaging weight in an ecological way, serving all consumers and saving considerable amounts of CO2 throughout the entire supply chain. Palm’s technological quantum leaps will accelerate the trend towards lighter and more environmentally friendly packaging.
