Mayr-Melnhof appoints new Managing Director for the Finnish cartonboard mill in Kotka

Marko Pekkola will take over the management of the Finnish cartonboard mill MM Kotkamills on January 1, 2025.

This was announced by Mayr-Melnhof on December 11. He succeeds Päivi Suutari, who has been Managing Director of the cartonboard mill since fall 2021. Suutari will take on the role of Senior Advisor from the beginning of 2025 until the end of March, according to the company.

According to MM, the mill's new Managing Director has many years of experience in corporate management. He moved from the position of CEO of Kesla Oyj to MM Kotkamills, where he has been Deputy CEO and Technology since the beginning of 2024. Previously, he was responsible for Neste Oyj's oil products business area and held senior positions at Stora Enso and M-real.

In Kotka, Mayr-Melnhof produces virgin fiber based cartonboard in grammages of 150-500 gsm on a cartonboard machine (KM 2) with a production capacity of up to 400,000 tons per year. In addition, MM operates a local paper machine (PM 1) for kraft paper with a capacity of 185,000 tons per year in basis weights of 80-350 gsm.
