Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has completed its €125 million investment in the Kuopio containerboard mill. It includes upgrades to the wood yard, fibre line, evaporation plant, and paper machine producing ProVantage Powerflute®, a high-performance fluting predominantly used in fresh fruit and vegetable trays and boxes.

This investment will increase production capacity by 55,000 tonnes per annum, enhance product quality for the benefit of our customers, and improve environmental performance by reducing greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of paper and improving resource and energy efficiency.

Shortly, Mondi Kuopio marked this milestone with an inauguration event attended by local politicians and partners, highlighting the collaborative efforts and shared vision of Mondi and its stakeholders in fostering economic growth and environmental responsibility.

Markus Gärtner, CEO of Mondi Corrugated Packaging, added, “Mondi's purpose is to be sustainable by design, and investments like this support our MAP2030 sustainability commitments around circular-driven packaging and paper solutions, created by empowered people, taking action on climate. The local community will benefit from a modernised mill, including improvements in safety and environmental performance.”
