Metsä Tissue to stop processing recycled fibers at Mänttä paper mill

The tissue paper producer Metsä Tissue, Espoo, plans to discontinue the processing of recycled fibers at the Mänttä paper mill and to shut down a tissue paper machine at the end of its life cycle.

This is according to a company press release. Metsä Tissue also plans to initiate negotiations with the Mänttä workforce in the near future, as the planned steps could lead to the elimination of up to 35 jobs. At the same time, however, five new jobs are to be created, according to the statement.
Metsä Tissue is increasingly focusing on hygiene products made from virgin fibers. Investments in the modernization of production facilities are intended to improve the mill's environmental footprint, particularly in the area of water systems. This should contribute to the implementation of the sustainability targets by 2030, the press release continues.
Metsä Tissue manufactures products from the Serla, Lambi and Katrin lines at the Mänttä paper mill. The mill currently has three tissue machines, one machine for the production of greaseproof paper and ten tissue converting lines. According to the company, a total of 496 employees work at the Mänttä site, producing hygiene paper products with an annual capacity of 97,000 tons per year.
