Strike in Finland: Metsä Group has to stop two pulp mills
News General news
Finnish Metsä Group is one of the first companies in the forest industry to announce a production stoppage due to the strikes.
Pulp and board producer Metsä Board, a part of Metsä Group, has announced a temporary closure of the company's Kaskinen and Joutseno pulp mills.
Temporary closures due to ongoing strikes in the transport and logistics sector are also planned at the UPM and Stora Enso mills, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
On 11 March, trade union workers in the logistics and transport sector in Finland went on a two-week strike to protest against the government's plans for labour market reforms and welfare cuts. The strike is affecting the functioning of the country's ports and railway system and, if carried out as announced, is expected to have an impact on the supply and delivery of raw materials in many industries.
