The new massive 130 MW turbine and generator arrived to Husum with special shipment from Hamburg, Germany, on Sunday 31st Oct. The weight of the turbine is an impressive 166 tons and the generator 161 tons. Both the turbine and generator were lifted on their foundations inside the turbine building in the first week of November and the installations continue until early spring.

Says the Project Director Kimmo Kangas: "The new turbine is a key component to increase mill's power production. It will replace all three old turbines and Husum's self-sufficiency of electricity will increase from 50 % to over 80 %."

The installation of the 121 meters high inner stack for the recovery boiler has also been started. Modernization of the existing evaporation plant became ready beginning of October and is in operation. Site manning in the pulp mill renewal project is currently about 600 people.

Metsä Board has set the target for all its mills and raw materials to be 100 % fossil free in 2030. The renewal of the Husum pulp mill is an important step towards this goal.
