Despite all efforts, no investor could be found for the Meldorf paper mill based in Tornesch. The company, which most recently employed over 100 people, has ceased operations.

The investor process initiated with the aim of finding a suitable buyer for the company was unsuccessful. It emerged that none of the numerous potential candidates approached were interested in acquiring the company. According to EUWID, the main reason for this was the fact that the loss-making situation in connection with the current energy crisis would have meant too great a risk for the future continuation of the company. This was exacerbated by the fall in the price of the paper produced, which ultimately meant that it was no longer possible to cover production costs. It was therefore inevitable that the company would have to be closed down.

A social plan and reconciliation of interests were signed with the works council. However, in order to cushion the social consequences of the job loss as quickly as possible, a so-called job exchange was set up together with the responsible employment agency in Elmshorn. This is intended to give the employees affected the opportunity to find new employment, ideally without any gaps.
