Reaction to shrinking market: Kabel Paper negotiates job cuts in Hagen
News General news
The paper mill Kabel Premium Pulp & Paper GmbH has announced that it will part with some employees at its plant in Hagen. This was confirmed by managing director Markus Schwinn in response to an enquiry from EUWID.
In future, the paper mill will permanently employ about 400 people. Schwinn did not say exactly how many jobs would be affected. Regional media reports mention a total of about 130 people. The job cuts will take place to varying degrees in all divisions of the company, Schwinn explained.
With the reduction in personnel, the company wants to react to the shrinking market for graphic papers in order to be able to continue to operate in an economically sensible way, Schwinn explained. At present, the managing director assumes that the market will shrink permanently by about 30 % compared to previous years.
Kabel produces about 450,000 tonnes of coated printing paper annually in Hagen. The company's portfolio also includes packaging papers and book paper.
