The plans also affect the Red River virgin fiber-based corrugated base paper mill in Campti, Louisiana. In addition to corrugated base paper, the integrated Red River paper and pulp mill also produces kraft paper for paper bags and carrier bags. With the closure of Red River, IP will reduce its production capacity by 725,000 tons.
According to IP, the announced closures are part of a transformation process that has already begun and will result in a stronger and more profitable packaging company. IP already closed several plants in the USA last year.
