International Toilet Paper Day on 26 August

Toilet paper, also known as loo paper, has become an indispensable part of our lives. It ensures hygiene and comfort in the toilet and is therefore an important part of our daily routine. However, access to this product is not a matter of course everywhere in the world.

International Toilet Paper Day is not only intended to emphasise the importance of this product, but also to draw attention to the problem of inadequate sanitation in many parts of the world. According to the World Health Organisation, around 2.4 billion people do not have access to basic sanitary facilities, which has serious consequences for the health and dignity of those affected.

In addition to its hygienic importance, toilet paper also has an ecological dimension. Production from recycled paper or sustainably managed forests and the use of environmentally friendly production processes are becoming increasingly important in order to minimise the impact on our environment.

International Toilet Paper Day is an opportunity to recognise the role of this product, which is often taken for granted, while raising awareness of global sanitation challenges. It is a call to advocate for access to basic sanitary products for all people and to promote sustainable solutions.
