EUWID market report on AP packaging papers: Prompt increases and decreases in the market

Until the end of January and the publication of the EUWID paper price index, it was not possible in discussions with the market to depict a market-compliant development for January.

Some of the industry - both paper mills and corrugated board manufacturers - reported having granted or received concessions in December, but no further concessions in January. Other players reported having made or received concessions in both December and January. Only February brought clarity.

While concessions had still been granted for January, letters about price increases were sent to the market with only a slight time lag, which were to be implemented on February 1. The argumentation for this step was sometimes based on cost increases, sometimes it was formulated more directly that it was no longer possible to work economically at the prevailing level. Although the development of waste paper is also reflected in the arguments, this is not decisive for the current announcement.
