High-speed winding on an 11 m wide winder at the Palm paper mill in Aalen

The Palm paper mill in Aalen has set a world record on a Valmet winder. According to the machine and plant manufacturer, the OptiWin Pro Winder of the PM5 achieved a world record on 3 April 2024.

The Valmet system wound rolls at a speed of 3,220 m/min and a diameter of 1,450 mm in less than 4 minutes. The speed record was achieved just two weeks after the annual shutdown of the corrugated base paper PM.
Palm Aalen's PM5 started in 2021 and is designed for an annual capacity of 750,000 tonnes and a speed of 2,000 m/min. According to Valmet, the line is the world's widest corrugated board machine.
The winder of the PM5 is an OptiWin Pro Winder with dual unwind system. At the time, it was the 1000th winder delivered by Valmet.
