Germany: Coreboard producers see themselves increasingly forced to take shutdown measures
News General news
Although demand is rising in the German market for cores and core board, a real revival has not yet set in.
Producers who have a broader portfolio and for whom cores for the paper industry are only part of the business are not doing well, with declines of just over 10%. However, compared to competitors serving the paper market, the situation is still comparatively good. Manufacturers of cores for the paper industry are struggling with volume declines in the range of 20 % and more.
Nevertheless, according to their information, many manufacturers of cores are only producing with reduced shifts to a limited extent and have no unscheduled shutdowns except for planned overhauls, they say, but it all depends on the portfolio. The coreboard manufacturers are much more affected by necessary shutdowns. According to the information, the pressure on core prices is keeping within limits, which was most likely attributed to the quiet demand.
