Germany: gloomy mood in the newsprint market
News General news
The mood of many German companies has deteriorated as part of the summer slowdown - including in the newsprint market. The paper and printing industry was generally less satisfied with current business in July than before.
And August also often got off to a very slow start. While a few paper mills and printing companies are reporting decent levels of employment, skepticism has increased noticeably among many players with regard to the coming months. "The German economy is stuck in the crisis," experts say. However, the extent to which the publishing and commercial business is being affected by this mood remains unclear in a number of discussions.
On the one hand, industry experts rightly lament that the decline in newspaper circulation is continuing. In addition, the advertising business is having problems; the red pencils in the marketing budget are being quickly applied. At the same time, paper has recently become more expensive. This is dampening the expectations of print shops.
