German paper industry assures performance in the event of early elections

The German paper industry has allayed concerns about a possible paper shortage in the event of early elections. Alexander von Reibnitz, Managing Director of the German Paper Industry Association, reaffirmed the industry's capacity in an interview with ZDF television. “We have paper,” he assured, and signaled the ability to supply the necessary paper for election materials if ordered on time.

This statement comes after warnings from the Federal Election Commissioner that an early election date could be problematic due to paper shortages. Von Reibnitz' response emphasizes the industry's efficiency and willingness to contribute to Germany's democratic processes, especially in light of the new elections targeted by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).

Scholz has expressed the wish to call a vote of confidence as early as January, with the aim of holding new elections by the end of March at the latest. The focus here is on coordination in the Bundestag with regard to the laws still to be passed. The SPD's open willingness to talk to the CDU/CSU and FDP about demands for an earlier election date shows the dynamism and urgency of the political discussion.

The German paper industry thus emphasizes its role as a reliable partner in times of political and social challenges and underlines its confidence that it can effectively support the infrastructure for a democratic vote.
