France: Weakening demand but stable prices on the recovered paper market
News General news
The French waste paper market got off to a slow start after the summer break. The hoped-for demand stimulus failed to materialize.
Nevertheless, prices for the lower grades were unchanged in September compared to August. Prices for all other grades also remained stable. The relationship between supply and demand here was similar to before, meaning that there were no price changes.
September started less positively than hoped for several corrugated base paper and cardboard manufacturers. Activity is only slowly picking up again after the summer and the order situation is weak. Over the summer and into September, few but a few shutdowns were planned in the French paper industry. In addition, there were a few unplanned, short shutdowns due to technical problems. All in all, activity was not significantly reduced, but overall paper and cardboard production in France was somewhat lower and some mills had higher stocks of waste paper.
