According to a company statement, this conversion enables Fortissue to choose flexibly between electricity from the Portuguese grid or from its own renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. When using grid electricity, greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by 20%, while net-zero emissions are achieved when using only renewable energy.

Nuno Ribeiro, owner of Fortissue, emphasizes the importance of this project, which began in 2024, for the energy transition in the tissue industry. Gabriele Barattini, Project Manager at Toscotec, emphasizes the advantages in the energy supply of the drying section of PM 1. The implementation marks a significant step towards sustainable production methods in the tissue industry, according to the company.

Fortissue is a Portuguese tissue manufacturer based in Alvarães. The company produces products such as kitchen and toilet rolls with a capacity of 35,000 tons per year.
