Florian Döbl has been managing the Mondi Neusiedler paper mill in Lower Austria since the beginning of the year. As one of his first tasks in his new position, he is responsible for implementing the EUR 20 million investment programme to modernise production, increase energy efficiency and thus sustainably reduce emissions. Florian Döbl has also set himself the goal of driving forward the cultural transformation and strengthening diversity within the company. The engineering graduate has been with the manufacturer of sustainable packaging and paper since 2005 and has held various positions within the Group during this time. Thanks to his many years with the company, he has a broad, in-depth knowledge of the industry and is familiar with the diverse requirements of paper production.

Ambitious sustainability targets

2024 is a landmark year for Mondi Neusiedler in terms of sustainability. As part of a comprehensive investment programme, the company is currently modernising key elements in the areas of energy generation and pulp production. The aim of the technical reorganisation is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy efficiency and improve operational safety. "We expect to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 20 per cent, NOx emissions by up to 10 per cent and gas consumption by around 25 per cent compared to 2023," says Florian Döbl. This contributes to the ambitious sustainability targets that Mondi has defined in the MAP2030 action plan (Mondi Action Plan 2030).

Benefiting from diversity

For Florian Döbl, the key factors for sustainable corporate success include not only technical innovations, but above all a corporate culture that is characterised by respectful and appreciative cooperation. In this context, he wants to promote diversity among employees and, among other things, increase the proportion of women to 30 per cent.

"A well thought-out, open communication strategy is crucial to the success of the cultural transformation. For me, this is the key to a 'growth mindset'. With a positive and agile attitude, we contribute to the success of the company together," says Florian Döbl. Through extensive apprentice training, international working groups and platforms such as the newly created women's network, as well as interactions with management and more personal responsibility, the Managing Director wants to create an environment in which all employees can develop and grow in their own unique way. "As I focus on people, I bring my employees together for constructive, respectful dialogue, support them and want to give everyone the opportunity to develop according to their strengths and interests," explains Florian Döbl. "I'm a big fan of letting the 'team' speak for itself. I'm happy when the back rows step forward and contribute productively."

By being able to rotate between Mondi locations worldwide, the 48-year-old Managing Director also promotes networking among employees within the Group, thereby strengthening open dialogue and a culture of continuous improvement.

Adaptability as a game changer in turbulent times

Florian Döbl sees the ability to adapt quickly and dynamically to economic, political and social changes as a decisive competitive factor. "Those who are able to adapt flexibly to new markets and challenges and who are open to establishing new solutions and scenarios will be successful on the market in the long term," says Florian Döbl. "In order to realise our full potential, we must continuously develop market-oriented products and services and make targeted investments." Mondi Neusiedler is also continuously expanding its product portfolio. In addition to high-quality uncoated papers for graphic printing, technical applications and further processing, the company offers papers for sustainable premium and luxury packaging.
