Recovered paper prices in Germany on the verge of a trend reversal
News General news
As expected, prices for bulk grades on the German waste paper market rose again slightly in October. Market participants are reporting largely balanced waste paper prices for November.
However, a trend reversal is expected in December. Due to extensive shutdowns in the paper industry, prices for department stores' waste paper and mixed paper are expected to fall.
The German waste paper market is currently balanced. Supply and demand for bulk grades remain balanced at a low level. According to dialogue partners, the volume of long-distance exports has fallen compared to October due to poorer conditions. At the same time, however, there are reports of a slight improvement in demand from domestic factories. Market participants are therefore expecting mostly stable prices for the lower grades in November, although slight price increases are also expected in some cases.
Last month, on the other hand, attractive prices and low freight rates for exports combined with weak volumes from collections led to an increase in bulk grades. Prices for the other grades of recovered paper were largely stable in October, with only the better grades again experiencing discounts.
