Euwid: Majority of Germans unaware of impending mandatory reuse in to-go sector
News General news
The majority of Germans are unaware that certain providers of food in the to-go sector will have to offer reusable packaging as well as disposable packaging from next year.
According to a survey by service station chain HEM, 76% of respondents do not know that from January 1, 2023, delivery services and restaurants with a sales area of more than 80 square meters and more than five employees will be legally required to offer reusable packaging for to-go products. However, 76% of those surveyed by HEM also felt that the statutory reusable packaging requirement made sense and that they were prepared to incur a small amount of additional expense to protect the environment. Only 7% of the survey participants stated that they would opt for one-way even in the long term, as returning reusable containers would be too costly for them.
According to its own statement, the HEM service station chain has decided to offer the Recup GmbH reusable deposit system at 380 stations with an attached Bistro Vital in the future. The start date for the Germany-wide roll-out is October 15, 2022.
