CMPC plans capacity expansion with additional pulp mill in Brazil
News General news
The Chilean forest products company Empresas CMPC is considering the construction of another pulp mill for short-fibre pulp in southern Brazil.
The new mill, with a production capacity of up to 2.5 million tonnes per year, is to be built in the municipality of Barra do Ribeiro, around 30 kilometres from the existing CMPC Guaíba pulp mill and around 60 kilometres from Porto Alegre.
The company has already begun preparing the necessary environmental impact studies. Once the feasibility studies and the environmental impact assessment have been completed, the project will be presented to the CMPC Board of Directors for a final investment decision from around mid-2026. If the project is given the green light, the work could be completed in less than three years.
