Approximately two-thirds of these job cuts are to take place at Billerud's Swedish plants in Frövi, Karlsborg, Gruvön, Gävle and Skärblacka. This is according to the Swedish newspaper Dagens Arbete. The legally required negotiations between Billerud and the employee representatives have already begun.

This initiative by the Swedish pulp, paper and board producer will also hit jobs in North America, it adds. The measures are expected to generate annual structural savings of skr300 million, with the majority of the ongoing savings to be achieved in 2024.

According to Billerud, market conditions for most product categories remain weak, and the company does not expect a strong recovery in demand in the near future. Against this backdrop, Billerud would need to continue to adapt to the new conditions in order to improve competitiveness.
