According to the responsible association Wellpappe Austria, turnover fell by 6.8% to €506 million in 2024 due to high costs. However, sales volumes remained almost stable at 720 million m2. The most important customers were the food and beverage industry with 45%, followed by machinery, furniture, electronics and automotive with 23%. Shipping packaging accounted for around 9%.

Turbulent global economic developments, volatile raw material prices and high energy costs remain major challenges for the industry, according to the association. For example, raw paper prices rose dramatically again in March 2025 and represent an enormous challenge for the industry. However, the hope remains that the industrial economy will pick up again in the near future.
