Amazon tests customized paper bags for shipping

The US e-commerce company Amazon is currently testing new packaging machines in Europe and the US that individually cut paper bags to size depending on the item to be packaged.

As the company explains, this should reduce the amount of packaging required for thousands of items. A sensor integrated into the logistics processes scans the products, such as video games, kitchen appliances, sports or office supplies. The machine then cuts paper bags from paper rolls in real time in order to pack the items securely and according to size. Each envelope is sealed using heat-sealing technology. The elimination of adhesive further reduces the consumption of resources, they say.
