ALDI North opts for sustainable carrier bags made from recycled plastic
News General news
ALDI North is revising its range of carrier bags and will be using carrier bags made from recycled plastic in future. The bags are produced in a particularly sustainable way and are fully reusable and recyclable.
Around 97 million carrier bags were sold throughout the ALDI North Group in 2023 - 33 million in Germany alone. As part of the international harmonization of the product range, the range of carrier bags has now also been revised and expanded to include three particularly sustainable variants.
The new carrier bags are available in Germany in three sizes (S, M, L) at prices ranging from €0.25 to €0.99. They are made from 95% recycled material and are fully reusable and recyclable. In addition, the printing inks used are water-based and therefore particularly environmentally friendly. In future, the smallest carrier bag will replace the paper carrier bag that ALDI North temporarily had in its range.
Sandra Bauch, Director Category Household & Health, Baby & Beauty at ALDI North, explains: “With our new carrier bags, we are offering our customers a sustainable, reusable alternative and at the same time making a contribution to promoting the circular economy.”
The remaining paper carrier bags are now being sold off and will gradually disappear from the range. In addition to the new carrier bags, the recycled freezer carrier bag and the previous reusable carrier bag in the ALDI North look as well as a Fairtrade-certified cotton carrier bag will continue to be available.
