26 August: Toilet Paper Day / Indispensable commodity - supply uncertain
News General news
26 August is International Toilet Paper Day - a day that draws attention to a rather inconspicuous product that is nevertheless of great importance to society. Toilet paper creates a sense of safe hygiene and contributes to the well-being of millions of people who use it every day, everywhere.
After all, every German citizen uses an average of 134 rolls a year. Toilet paper is not only important for private hygiene. It is also indispensable in the workplace and in public facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes and airports. However, the security of supply for this so important product is under threat. "In the current energy crisis, our top priority is to ensure that people are supplied with this important commodity," affirms Martin Krengel, Vice President of the Association DIE PAPIERINDUSTRIE and CEO of the tissue paper manufacturer WEPA. "In the tissue paper production process, we are particularly dependent on gas. If it were to disappear, we would no longer be able to guarantee security of supply."
